Motor Insurance And A Modified Vehicle

Many people are of firm belief that they do not have a modified vehicle. When one thinks of a modified vehicle they think of something with an extended body kit, loud roaring engine and all the bells and whistles. This is not always so! Remember that a modification can include new rims on your wheels or different seats. Anything that changes your vehicle from the way it was at factory will deem it as a modified vehicle!

Bear in mind that most car insurance companies will not like to insure modified vehicles. Modified vehicles are seen as higher risks. This is firstly because they are normally modified to go faster, and are then seen as higher accident risks. Many people modify their engines and are then not fully able to control the vehicle at such high speeds! Furthermore, modified vehicles are a much higher theft risk than regular vehicles.

If you do have a modified vehicle, it is possible to get cheap car insurance. Firstly, you can try and do your insurance for car and household under one roof. Some insurance companies offer better deals regarding this. Alternatively, you can try and find an insurance company that specialises in modified vehicle insurance. If you do not come lucky with this, you could always try and lower the theft risk of your vehicle. This means installing some extra security features.

A lot of people become tempted to simply not inform their motor insurance company of their modifications for fear of having to pay a higher premium. This is never the clever thing to do because your motor insurance company will always be able to tell if your vehicle has been modified from the way it was during the initial check over of your vehicle before your policy was put into place!
